Ashley & Isaac

Ashley and Isaac went to rival colleges and one of Ashley’s close friends introduced her to Isaac. At this point, Ashley and Isaac’s relationship was more of an occasional Facebook message or group dinner. Senior year, Issac moved up to Ashley’s town and they immediately realized what they had been missing out on. Ashley left to study abroad right after they got together. She made Isaac get his passport and visit her, and that left a huge impression on their relationship and future goals together.

The Proposal: It was one of those weekends where everything was going really well, enjoying the best dinners and a wine and paint night. Ashley and Isaac were at the zoo. While the couple was feeding the ‘budgies’ in the bird house, Isaac brought one down to Ashley and when it flew away, the ring was on the stick. Isaac didn’t get down on one knee, Ashley just sobbed and said yes. No one else noticed and Ashley says it was just perfect.

We were able to ask Ashley and Isaac some questions about their wedding planning and the big day!

Q: What were you inspired by while planning your wedding? (Theme, Color Combinations, Places?)
A: “Fall colors and changing of the seasons, as well as some little bird details, since we both love them so much. “Birds of a feather flock together””

Q: What were some of your favorite wedding day details/memories?
A: “Some of our favorite things were actually the tiny pieces, our felted bird cake toppers, the antique Korean wedding ducks I picked up from a flea market in Seoul, and the borrowed things from my family. I had my great grandmothers pearls and handkerchief, and my aunt let me use her veil. Right after we finished our ceremony my husband was so ready to get the party rolling, that he started walking back up the aisle without me. Made the entire room laugh. We also both have left feet and can’t dance, even though we practiced our first dance ended up being rough and messy, but it was us, it was hilarious, and I know I’ll remember it.”

Q: What advice would you give to future couples planning their wedding?
A: “Do not panic! We had multiple moments when we were in the “we should have just gotten eloped!!” trauma. Once you find the venue, everything else comes into place. I also learned if you trust someone, you don’t need to have your hands in anything. I didn’t see most of the decorations beforehand because I had left it up to my grandma and everything worked out fine. The entire day went by so fast, it felt as though I didn’t get any time to see any one the day of for more than a few moments. If you have anyone coming in from out of town, try and put a day aside before the wedding to spend some time with them, cause it won’t happen on the big day. Our ceremony was 100% worth the stress and it really did bring us, and our families together.”

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share about your big day?
A: “At the end of the day, you get to open all your cards. In our situation at least, that was almost the best part, every single one was filled with love, congratulations, and we felt reassured and extra grateful to have all those people in our lives. It was incredible opening a card, and knowing who wrote it before getting to the signature because of all the personality each one had.”
