Daniel and Mikyla met at the gym that Mikyla worked at. While she would close the cash register out at the end of the night, Daniel would try to throw off her count by telling Mikyla random numbers. The couple became Facebook friends and work out buddies, and the rest is history 🙂

The Proposal: Daniel took Mikyla and their new puppy, Jack, to the Multnomah Falls to celebrate her birthday and Memorial Day. They walked around and played with Jack. Multnomah Falls has an area with undercover picnic tables and a fireplace that had a fire burning already. Daniel wanted to take a picture with Mikyla and Jack in front of the fireplace. After he took the picture, he asked if Mikyla would take his picture with Jack. She reached for his phone, but he asked if she would take it on her phone instead. While Mikyla dug through her bag, Daniel pinned a note on Jack’s collar. After she had taken the picture, Daniel put Jack on the ground and told him to “Get mom.” Jack ran over to her and she pulled the note off of his collar, which Mikyla says, “took like 5 minutes because Daniel had taped the thing so many times.” Once she got the note open and started to read it, Mikyla was in total shock that Daniel was proposing to her. He talked about how much he loves her, and how he could never imagine living life without her. As Mikyla looked over to Daniel, he was getting down on one knee with her ring in his hands.
It seems like Mikyla got quite the birthday gift! 🙂

We interviewed Mikyla and Daniel to get some feedback about their special day and the vendors that they chose!

Q: What were you inspired by while planning your wedding? (Theme, Color Combinations, Places?)
A: “Our venue had a woodsy feel to it with a waterfall on the property and big trees. We decided to go with a rustic (but not in your face) theme. I think it turned out beautifully.”

Q: What were some of your favorite wedding day details/memories?
A: “Some of my favorite memories from our wedding day were reading our vows to each other and dancing with my dad. I also really enjoyed getting to spend time with everyone who came to help us celebrate our special day!”

Q: Did you have any D.I.Y. (aka Do It Yourself) details?
A: “I planned our whole wedding out, with help from family. The biggest thing I could say is make sure you are super organized. I had excel spreadsheets with everything written down. This made the day of our wedding so much less stressful. My family got creative and helped make signs for the wedding out of an old wooden pallet.”

Q: What advice would you give to future couples planning their wedding?
A: “Wait to pick your wedding party, especially if you have a long engagement. I have a handful of friends that gave me this advice and I didn’t listen. A lot can change when your engagement is long. I would say, see who seems evolved from the start of planning before you make your decision on who to include in the wedding, especially if you are going to expect more from them than to just show up on the day of your wedding. My other piece of advice is if you are on the fence about planning the wedding yourself versus hiring a wedding planner, have faith in yourself. There are so many tools out there that help make the planning process easier, and you can save yourself money!”
