1. How did you get into the wedding photography business?
“I could list hundreds of reasons why wedding photography is a passion of mine, but in the beginning it was just another goal I had set to reach! Starting out I did solely family portraits. It wasn’t until I started getting couples wanting to do their engagement photos with me that I knew weddings would be my happy place. Hearing the history of the couples and the stories about the proposal, seeing the sparkle in the brides eye as she told the story… it is ALWAYS magical, it is always a happy tale to tell! One by one my engagement portrait clients started booking me as their wedding photographer and before I knew it, I was a full time wedding professional! I take my role very seriously, from staying up to date with education, to making sure I have the best gear to capture the day.”
2. What do you enjoy about being a wedding photographer?
“Straight up, weddings are amazing events to get to shoot! I never get bored, since there is always something happening, and each one is different! Not only do they take place in beautiful locations, but they are also chock full of genuine emotion, which I chase with a passion! I get to spend your day capturing happiness, laughter, joy, anticipation, excitement, and maybe even some tears, happy ones at that. It’s so jam packed with photographic opportunities that I am getting excited just talking about it! “
3. What keeps you creative/inspired?
“Emotion, EMOTION, EMOTION!! In the happenings of the day I keep my senses open wide and pick up on the energy of the couple and the guests. As an experienced professional, I have a strong sense of when those delicious moments are about to blossom. Every wedding is different, every moment is different, but they are all dear to my heart, every single one.”
“Developing a wide range of photographic skills is also what keeps me on my toes and inspired! As a wedding photographer you’ll find yourself shooting in a wide range of styles. There’s a lot time spent in the photo-journalistic mindset, then you switch to being a portrait photographer, directing and posing. You will shoot lots of details, putting on your still life/commercial cap. You may do some shots of the location or venues, drawing on landscape and architectural skills. Light-wise you’ll need to learn to shoot in sunlight, shade, rain, snow (if you’re lucky!!!), artificial light, and practically no light. You wind up becoming a very well-rounded shooter, able to adapt to ever-changing scenarios and lighting situations!”
4. What is one thing you would like every bride & groom to know before the wedding?
“The most important thing I like the couples I work with to know is that their wedding day is as important as my own would be! A wedding day is not one that can be replayed, you have one chance, one moment in time to tell this story and I am going to be there putting my absolute all into the entire day. Essentially, I like to consider myself as being part of the wedding party. I am another friend of yours sharing this uber special day! I feel the emotions of the event almost as if we are old friends.”
5. How has witnessing so many weddings impacted your life/outlook?
“Starting with saying that I live and breathe weddings, the wedding industry has given me such a fresh rose colored lens to view the world through. Having a career that is focused around love and not much else, it tends to bring more of it into my every day experiences. In addition to being able to spend the day with my amazing couples, I have been truly blessed in keeping some of them around and can consider them friends of mine. I can not think of a better impact then gaining friendships from what I do from “work”. I use the work loosely as when you find your passion, there is a feeling where doing your job feels less like work and more like a source of enjoyment!”
