Real Wedding: Lisa & Edward
Leandra & Raidar
married on April 5th 2022
“We met online and talked for over half a year before meeting for the first time on December 20th, 2014 (7 years together!). We met downtown and Raidar had to parallel park my car for me lol. We had dinner then went to a paint and cocktail class. It became a small anniversary tradition for us to paint together each year. We kissed for the first time beneath the sparkling Christmas lights of the city. Felt very magical!
Raidar proposed at a park with a lake near where I grew up. However he wanted it to be a surprise so he tried to give me vague directions to a nearby “restaurant” he wanted to go to. I was driving and knew the neighborhood like the back of my hand so I was very confused. We even ended up circling the whole area before we made it to the park. I didn’t realize what was happening until I saw a picnic set up near the lake. I was very surprised! Of course I said yes and couldn’t stop saying “wow” for the rest of the evening. We had Olive Garden (one of our fave date spots) and wine, and enjoyed the beautiful weather and evening sun until some wasps wanted to enjoy our meal too. Afterwards, since we were in my old neighborhood, we drove to my parents house to share the news. Raidar’s parents already knew as they helped him set up the scene and take photos.”
What were some of your favorite wedding day details/memories?“I don’t think we could pick just one! From our DIY projects coming together, the very personalized ceremony, taking pictures in the cold, all of the fun dances, seeing all of our closest friends and family in person celebrating us with smiles and laughter, and of course getting married to our best friend, pal and confidant! Our day came together in the end and was perfect for us.”
What were you inspired by while planning your wedding?
“We are both nerds but wanted our theme to be more broad than niche so we chose Game Board themed! We had games for guests to play and each table was a different game like Monopoly or Game of Life. I had no idea how to choose a wedding color scheme so I just took my and Raidar’s favorite colors, which are green and orange, and found shades of each that didn’t scream sports team lol. It ended up being light/pastel green and orange. Perfect springtime colors.”
“Trust the process. This phrase may be a bit cliché but it is very true as you get close to your wedding day and the day itself. There comes a point where what’s planned is planned and it’s best to let it all fall in to place. It really did on our day!”
Did you have any D.I.Y. (aka Do It Yourself) details?
“Since our theme was a bit unconventional, it was really hard to find pre-made decorations that wasn’t for a non-wedding party. We still wanted our décor to feel like a wedding and not a themed party. Our beautiful venue helped but DIYing our decorations really helped as well. We made all of our invitations, the table “numbers”, signs, and ordered a word search for cocktail hour/reception (which was a big hit for guests).”
