Couple of the Year Entry: Denise & Jeffrey
Denise & Jeffrey 10-28-18
After 6 years Jeff and Denise were engaged on Christmas day 2017. They hosted dinner and had family from both sides at the house. The evening was wrapping up and a few people were getting ready to leave. Jeff asked for everyone's attention. He had written her a poem and wanted to "give" it to her while everyone was there. He proceeded to put a tape recorder, yes a tape recorder, on the table. He's old school, that’s why she love ‘em. Being the softy he is, he'd recorded it because he knew he'd never get through it if he had to speak. They all listened as he poetically asked for her hand then got down on one knee and presented her with a ring. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!!!
After losing her husband in 1995 She decided sheneeded a fresh start and that included a new job. She found herself at Boca Lago Country Club. It was there we met Jeff. She was in the accounting office, he was in charge of all things golf cart-related. After a while, she would find herself looking for him as she wandered through the club. She'd meet his smile with one of her own that reached all the way to the corner of her eyes. Unfortunately for her, someone else had already caught his eye and they were married a few years later. When she left that job she stayed in touch with a friend and occasionally would go out for dinner. Once in a while, she would ask others to join them. She was always disappointed when he didn't come.
Sadly, in 2012 Jeff lost his wife. The next time her friend and Denise went for dinner they made sure to invite him. Later that night he texted, thanking her for a much needed night out. She told him that although they had lost our spouses under different circumstances she could relate to what he was going through. She was there if he needed someone to talk to.
A few weeks later he asked Denise for dinner. It was his birthday and he didn’t want to spend it alone (knowing she wouldn't make a fuss because she didn't know it was his birthday) but didn’t want to celebrate either. He asked about Denise's late husband. All those years he thought she was divorced so he was surprised to hear her story. Even given the subject matter of most of the evening it was a very comfortable and pleasant night.
Later that same week Denise was on a weekend getaway (planned months before) with someone she thought she was building a relationship with, albeit long distance. She was in Key West but her mind was back home. Jeff and Denise texted the entire weekend. She dropped her friend off at the airport Sunday on her way to Jeff's house and have pretty much been there ever since. Jeff jokes that she didn’t even stop, she just slowed down and pushed him out.
Favorite Part of Wedding Planning "For me it was dress shopping with my mom and my two girls. We laughed, we cried (happy tears), we had so much fun. WE picked the perfect dress!! For Jeff, it was being told what to wear and when to be at the ceremony. Lol"
Tear Jerking Story from their Wedding "Hands down, the toasts. Again, happy tears. We had my father, two of Jeff's brothers and my daughter speak. Then before the end of the night one of my boys had a go of it. Everyone so eloquently spoke of how genuinely happy they were for us and welcomed being part of the others family."
Funny Story from their Wedding "Unbeknownst to the groom I had changed the wording of when we exchanged rings. From the time he proposed whenever he would say or do something weird or out of the ordinary he’d laugh and say, 24/7 365. So instead of the typical "with this ring, I thee wed" that he was expecting to hear it was, "I give you this ring as a symbol to join my life with yours, 24/7 365." The expression on Jeff’s face was priceless. "
The Story Behind their Favorite Wedding Photos "Loved the candid shots of everyone having a great time. Also, Jeff and I have always worked in the country club industry. It was such a pleasure to be married at a club and have OUR pictures, the ones of just the two of us, taken on the golf course. Couldn’t have asked for a better weather. We had a clear blue sky. Complemented by the beautiful blue lake and deep green grass."
Photographer Experience "Steve couldn't have been more professional or nicer. Other than taking our posed pictures we didn't even know there were photographers in the room. And somehow they managed to capture the entire night perfectly."
What the couple liked most about working with Classic Photographers "Planning a wedding and dealing with vendors can be quite hairy at times. Not you guys, start to finish the whole process couldn't have been any easier."
Why should you be chosen as the CP Couple of the Year? "Do we want to win? Absolutely! There is nothing I love more than spending time away with my husband. That being said, I don't know that we deserve to win any more than anyone else. Our story isn't so different than most... two people met and fell in love. We've both suffered great loss but we've both found love and true happiness in each other."
