Wedding of the Week: Kaylea & Niall

Kaylea & Niall
5-19-18

Kaylea and Niall’s love story goes back to November 27, 2013. Kaylea was in California for her 21st birthday celebrating with family. She received a Snapchat of some boys from a friend. Kalyea vividly remembers this dark hair, dark-eyed guy in the middle… giving her the finger. Yep, that’s right, the middle finger! Kaylea wrote back to her friend, “you can tell your little friend to apologize.” Well, he apologized! (We’re sure you can guess who it was). Niall felt so bad that he even took Kaylea’s phone number from her friend’s phone and began texting her. The couple talked every day until they finally got to meet in February. It was the “Black Out & Go Ball”, as the witty Wofford College students like to call it. Kaylea and Niall had so much fun, and danced their hearts out to Journey! The couple instantly connected. Kaylea knew Niall was the one when her dad told her mom that she had a special glow about her. Niall and Kaylea did long distance while she was at school. Kaylea thinks that the distance is really what kept them together as a couple, saying it really shows you a lot about the other person. They said it wasn’t easy, but truly think it was a blessing in disguise.

The Proposal
Niall proposed on Kaylea’s 24th birthday, in front of both of their families. Kaylea’s brother actually Facetimed Niall’s mom who lives in Massachusetts! Kaylea’s brother was taking pictures of everyone when he said it was their turn. She noticed Niall started breathing SUPER heavy, and his heart was pounding. She knew something was up. Kaylea mouthed, “are you okay?” to Niall, and he said yes. She remembers her brother saying, “okay, last one.” After that picture, Kaylea turned to walk away, and Niall grabbed her hand and immediately dropped to one knee. He said, “Ever since I met you, I knew you were the one for me. Okay, I don’t really know what else to say so will you marry me?” She was in tears, so all she could do was shake her head yes. It was really beautiful! People joke with Niall that he has a lot to live up to now since he proposed on Kaylea’s birthday 😉

Wedding Inspiration
“I knew I wanted a princess wedding so I really started with Pinterest. I found a lot of things with lace, so I made the theme lace. We got married at our church and had our reception at Crosswater Hall at Nocatee in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. The colors came about because I’ve always liked purple, but I wanted a couple shades of purple. I did ivory, wisteria and plum.”

Favorite Wedding Memory
“My favorite memory from the wedding was of course the beautiful ceremony. At our church, it felt very intimate and personal since we are so close with our church. Then at the reception it was just watching all of our friends and family have such a great time. I was given advice from a friend at church a few days before the wedding and she said to take a couple of minutes in each event throughout the wedding day and stand there with Niall and take everything in. We did that every event from Thursday until Sunday since we made it a weekend event. It was amazing advice and I will be passing it along to brides!”

D.I.Y. Details
“I found these really cute picture holders and I made our centerpieces. Instead of the traditional Table 1, Table 2… etc we made each table a year. So we took different years, and put a picture of each of us in that year. We had Table 1992, Table 2003 etc. we uploaded the pictures onto our computer, used matte computer paper, sized the pictures and printed them from home. It was really cute and our guests loved it. It was a good way to get the guests to mingle during cocktail hour.”

& a Word of Advice…
“You really don’t need a wedding planner, if your mom, or your maid of honor can help you throughout the process, I think a wedding planner is a waste of money. We did not have a wedding planner and the day was perfect.”
